Homework Help Center

Every Tuesday and Thursday the National Honor Society Students offer after-school homework help from 2:30 pm-3:15 pm.

Tutoring

Students having trouble in any academic subject should see their guidance counselor. Free tutoring will be arranged with a National Honor Society student or teacher before or after school.

Testing Accommodations

Students with a current 504/IEP are eligible for testing accommodations after consultation with a guidance counselor. Guidance counselors will prepare and submit application for testing accommodations with College Board (SAT) and ACT programs.

 

Referrals

Guidance personnel will consult with and refer student/parents to local health professionals at the request of the family.

College Symposiums Financial Aid Workshop Free SAT Practice Exams with thorough explanation of results. On-Site SAT Preparation Program through Kaplan Test Prep and Kaufman Tutoring Service Referrals.

Individual Guidance

  • Assist students with academic and career issues.
  • Advise students in course selection process.
  • Prepare for college entrance exams (SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Tests).
  • Advise on test taking strategies.
  • Manage college application process.
  • Track school and New York State Regents graduation requirements.
  • Develop letters of recommendation for job, college and scholarship applications.
  • Promote academic achievement.

 

Personal Counseling

Mediation Short term counseling; self-esteem, relationships, personal issues...

Coordinate parent-teacher conferences.

Archdiocese Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program

Small group sessions focused on:

The prevention of alcohol and drug use, Anger Management and other topics or issues as needed.

Guidance Goals

9th Grade

Take challenging classes that will enhance your future plans.  Become involved in school or community based extracurricular activities that interest you and/or enable you to explore career interests. Get to know your school counselor and other resources available in school.

10th Grade

Complete Personality Profile to target areas of interest and ability. Review your transcript and academic track. Meet with your counselor and talk with your parents and teachers to discuss post-secondary plans. Take the PSAT in October. Look for summer programs in your field of interest.

11th Grade

  • Review transcript for graduation requirements.
  • Take the PSAT (The National Merit Scholarship program requires a Junior Year score).
  • Register for May SAT exam.
  • Register for June ACT exam.
  • Consider SAT Subject Tests-consult with your counselor.
  • Enhance your community service.
  • Explore summer programs and/or employment.
  • Enhance your community service.
  • Develop your college Resume.

 

12th Grade

  • Review GRADUATION status.
  • Compile list of school to apply to.
  • Obtain college applications.
  • File NCAA paperwork, if applicable.
  • Begin Scholarship file.
  • Register for October SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject Tests ( If applicable).
  • Attend College Fair.
  • Speak to visiting college reps.
  • Request teacher recommendations.
  • Proofread your college essay.
  • Submit college applications to guidance by school deadlines.
  • Listen for school announcements regarding local scholarships.
  • Complete and file financial aid forms:  www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Review college admission decisions.
  • Continue to seek scholarship opportunities.
  • Finalize your college choice.
  • Send thank you letters to the
  • individuals who wrote personal or college recommendations.
