To find one of the most powerful examples of the importance and the success of Catholic education today, one needs to look no further than 950 Mamaroneck Avenue. Firmly rooted in its rich, proud tradition, Archbishop Stepinac High School remains thoroughly committed to educate and inspire young men in a caring, disciplined, Catholic environment.
By remaining true to this philosophy, Stepinac is alive and well—not merely surviving but thriving—with over 650 students who are achieving academically while also participating in more than 50 different after-school activities, clubs and athletic teams! Even after 60 years, Stepinac remains at the forefront of Archdiocesan sponsored secondary education, providing a wonderful environment for students to prepare for the challenges they will face in the 21st century as men of strong faith and religious values.
This could not happen, however, without the generous support of our alumni and friends. Stepinac continues to play a major role in educating the young men of Westchester County and the nearby areas. Total enrollment at the school will be over 650 students for the 2008-09 school year, sustaining the growth that began about twelve years ago. Ninety nine percent of the 189 members of the Class of 2008 will go on to college. They have been awarded over $6.5 million in scholarships and grants for their college studies. The school is operating with an annual budget of $5 million. Tuition and fees for each student total $7,300 this year, while the actual cost of a Stepinac education is $10,000 per student.
Annual Fund 2009
The Purpose
Each year, the Stepinac community is asked to assist in the school’s extremely important mission. By contributing to the Annual Fund, every member of the Stepinac family plays a direct and active role in the education of all Stepinac students. The generosity of alumni, parents, alumni parents, and friends of the school will allow Stepinac to carry out its mission well into the new millennium. Last year’s Annual Fund reached record heights, and we hope to do even better this year.
The Need
The need is very great. The Annual Fund must provide the additional operating income that Stepinac needs to balance the school budget. Your annual support will help maintain affordable tuition levels; enhance academic programs; expand extracurricular activities and athletics; and provide additional funding for capital improvements. As you will see, this is especially true this year.
The Goal for 2009: Minimum $500,000
This year’s Annual Fund program marks another important step we will take as part of a major effort designed to address several high priority needs at the school. These priorities are:
1. To continue to keep tuition affordable, and allow Stepinac to offer academic
scholarships to attract the best students.
2. To continue to upgrade technology in all areas of the school.
3. To continue to equip the science labs with state of the art demonstration and lab equipment making them effective learning centers for science.
4. Most importantly, repairing and improving the school’s exterior structure which, after 60 years, shows signs of deterioration and weakness that must be corrected in the short term.
Your Role
Just as in 2008 when record numbers of donors came “on board,” participation is vital to the success of Annual Fund 2009. Once again, Archbishop Stepinac High School needs your help. Your contribution not only makes a direct impact on our school but it also sends an important message to other potential sources of funding—a message that says the Stepinac family is solidly behind the school in support of its mission to deliver a high-quality, value oriented education.
Corporations and foundations often base their level of giving on the number and percentage of alumni who support their Alma Mater. (Support from parents and friends plays a major role as well.) Contributions, regardless of the amount, can help secure significant support from these other sources.
